Yo Liam! What’s up? How ya feeling up there in the arctic? What have ya accomplished up there? Say hi to the canadians for me!

  3. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:08:48

Hi thanks a lot for all the messages of support and all the questions.

It isn’t that cold at all actually but the force of the wind is quite extreme at times

I have seen a polar bear which was incredible, I have also seen a puffin, reindeer, a bearded seal and a dead arctic fox. It was only afterwards that the guide we were with said the chances of you seeing a polar bear at this time of year were slim.

  4. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:11:02

I’m having an amazing time the other pupils are brilliant and the crew are so enthusiastic. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the northern lights because we are too far north and the colors aren’t as vibrant.

  5. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:12:01

We have soup everyday and usually meat. The cook really is brilliant. Just as Mr. Vingoe said.

  6. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:14:52

It was a mammoth of a journey to get here. We flew from Heathrow to Stockholm and stayed overnight there. Then we traveled onto Oslo and finally onto Longyearbyen the capital of Svalbard.

There we met some school children which was interesting and we all did various workshops together.

  7. Jess Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:15:57

  33. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:29:02

The cabins are quite small but really comfortable.

  36. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:31:38

Quincey it will be much colder in March.

  37. Caplin Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:31:55

is there as much litter on the beach as mr vingoe said there was

  41. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:34:00

Thanks a lot guys for all your questions.

  42. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:35:09

My equipment is working I found that the temperature of the water has a huge effect on the salinity reading therefore my results have been a bit all over the place

  43. Kathy Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:36:29

Must be interesting have students from really different backgrounds. Has Doriana taught you all any Inuktitut?

  44. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:36:34

There wasn’t actually any litter on the beach near the glacier we visited but we had the tide in at this point.

  45. Jess Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:37:04

Have the temperatures varied a lot depending on where you take your readings from in the water?

  46. Hannah Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:37:17

Liam – I wonder if you tell us what effect you think this trip will have on your thoughts of climate change and how you can influence others to respond to climate change

  47. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:37:21

Doriana has been doing her throat seeing on board the boat.

  48. james Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:37:37

  52. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:39:25

The temperature does vary on the location, for instance if I was in open water it probably would be different to when I was near a glacier.

  53. jennie upson Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:39:38

    hey dude :D

    Have a great time

  58. Jess Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:41:30

Have you looked at temperature variations in different depths -or would that just add complications to what you’ve researched in terms of distance from glaciers?

  59. jennie Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:42:32

    THANK YOU :D !!!!!!
WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE IS IT NICE?
    XX

  60. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:42:46

  61. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:43:27

The food is great, I shall bring back the Cooks cook book.

  62. chris Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:43:47

cant you take a water sample, and let it cool or heat to “room” temp?

  63. Jess Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:44:07

Oh dear! You may just have to go back to the Arctic maybe to do it again…that’s life, huh?

  70. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:46:59

On the other hand the scenery and wildlife is brilliant. Visiting the glacier was probably the best highlight.

  71. Rachel Carty Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:47:27

Hi Riddlesdown, to give Liam a chance to answer some questions I thought I’d ask you all… have you been doing any climate change projects while Liam’s been up in the Arctic?

  74. JENNIE Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:47:59

  77. pooja Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:48:59

Have You Seen Any Other Animals ?

    From Nancy ! :D

  83. Quincy Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:50:39

Actually, not much, we haven’t been doing much Cl Ch research. We’ve all been contemplating on why Liam went, and there are 10002 reasons why, heh!

  84. Hannah Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:51:23

Riddlesdown – just to follow on Kathy’s question. I work at the Cape Farewell HQ and we’d love to hear what climate change projects you’ve been working on while Liam’s away. What is your school doing about climate change? Do you recycle?!

  85. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:51:45

Yeah I shall give you a few copies. But it is scary the possibility of that glacier not being there in a few years time.

  86. Katie Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:52:05

    You There ?

  87. chris Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:52:23

Hi Chris how is it down there

  93. Rachel Carty Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:53:50

Im learning about Global warming in Geography and about your journey.

  94. Jess Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:53:53

Although that’s a scary thought, is it also slightly cool that you’ve seen something that not many people at all will see / have seen? Does that kind of bond you and the others together?

  95. Caplin Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:54:12

We’ll try to swap them with letters

  96. pooja Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:54:27

very well thank u :D what r u planning to write to liam next
    x

  97. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:54:40

We have all created an ice sculpture on a beach based around our feelings on climate change and the idea of the project. Look on the website at the photo gallery, there are some amazing photos.

  98. Quincy Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:54:44

That’s it! We’ll all write ginormous letters to the croydon council about this recycling fiasco! It’s so orriginal!

  99. JENNIE Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:55:02

you didnt answer my question about do i get a present when you come back? :D
make sure you do bring a copyof the cook book back because mum will probly TRY and make some of the things no only joking

  103. Hannah Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:56:09

(But obviously request that they recycle those letters once they have finished reading and responding to them!)

  105. chris Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:56:17

  108. Hannah Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:57:45

excellent – working with primary schools is a great idea. It’s all about spreading the knowledge of what you know and how you can change daily behaviours. Small changes lead to big changes!

  109. Liam Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:58:17

Tomorrow we shall be leaving Ny Alseund, at around lunchtime but please check out my next video.

  110. Jess Thursday 20 Sep, 2007 // 10:58:32
