Hi we’ve opened Liam’s QA session a bit early to give Liam a head start! If you do join us early feel free to join in.
Yo Liam! What’s up? How ya feeling up there in the arctic? What have ya accomplished up there? Say hi to the canadians for me!
Quincy
Hi thanks a lot for all the messages of support and all the questions.
It isn’t that cold at all actually but the force of the wind is quite extreme at times
I have seen a polar bear which was incredible, I have also seen a puffin, reindeer, a bearded seal and a dead arctic fox. It was only afterwards that the guide we were with said the chances of you seeing a polar bear at this time of year were slim.
I’m having an amazing time the other pupils are brilliant and the crew are so enthusiastic. Unfortunately I haven’t seen the northern lights because we are too far north and the colors aren’t as vibrant.
We have soup everyday and usually meat. The cook really is brilliant. Just as Mr. Vingoe said.
It was a mammoth of a journey to get here. We flew from Heathrow to Stockholm and stayed overnight there. Then we traveled onto Oslo and finally onto Longyearbyen the capital of Svalbard.
There we met some school children which was interesting and we all did various workshops together.
Hey Liam! Just to let you know, Sabelo’s filming the students at Riddlesdown, who should be watching your video right about … NOW! Your teacher sent us a copy of the article in the Croydon Advertiser! There’s a good picture of you and a nice long arcticle all about your trip!
Yo wazap Quincey,
It is amazing everything is different up here the air the temperature the skies. Everything.
It is an awesome experience. i have a huge story to tell you when I return.

It is constant daylight up here at the moment but now it’s getting into winter so it will be constant darkness. The sunsets are beautiful.

I’m with a Inuit girl from Northern Canada she has amazing stories to tell.

Now that you’re there, tell us a couple othings:
How cold is it actually? Do we really need to pack so much to wear???
Tell the Inuit girl (I’m glad you didn’t say ESKIMO!!) I say hi!
How’s your experiment going? I’m sure you’ll get resluts.
Tell the Inuit girl I say hi again!!
I am in Ny Alesund at a science research centre. It is the most Northernly settlement in the world.
Hi Liam, It’s Miss Power. I was just wondering how your research is going?!
cool vid, hoe big where the rooms on the boat?????
Erm, this is a site strictly for scientific or artistic queries, I’d like to point out!
Are you all watching in assembly or are you in the computer suite.
i meant to write how big sorry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oi !
Now guys, Let’s take a quick break to give ol’ Liam a chance to answer…!
The cabins are quite small but really comfortable.
we are in ict suite
My science research isn’t going really according to plan at the moment but I will try the experiment with different equipment.
Quincey it will be much colder in March.
What happened? Is the equipment not working?
Use the equipment you should then
you mist a good wing review.we have booked leave for you.
james
is there as much litter on the beach as mr vingoe said there was
Thanks a lot guys for all your questions.
My equipment is working I found that the temperature of the water has a huge effect on the salinity reading therefore my results have been a bit all over the place
Must be interesting have students from really different backgrounds. Has Doriana taught you all any Inuktitut?
There wasn’t actually any litter on the beach near the glacier we visited but we had the tide in at this point.
Have the temperatures varied a lot depending on where you take your readings from in the water?
Liam – I wonder if you tell us what effect you think this trip will have on your thoughts of climate change and how you can influence others to respond to climate change
Doriana has been doing her throat seeing on board the boat.
the C.O wants to know how you are
james
sorry throat singing
Mr Maslen says Hi!
Hiii Hope Your Having A great Time ?
You Seem To Be Having Fun! We Have Been Reading Your Blogs!
We Have Been Watching Your Videos You Have Been Making
See You When You Get Back
Nicole Jens Friend
The temperature does vary on the location, for instance if I was in open water it probably would be different to when I was near a glacier.
hey dude
you ok? is it really cold or isnt it too bad?
was it really cool to see a polar bear
i did my trampolining competition on sunday and got third as a team medal
see you soon bye
from the best sister in the world
JENNIE X
Hi Mr Maslin is Mr Vingoe there.
Hey Liam You ok so how you been
Have fun and i hope you have fun!
Bi Rachel
I bet its a great experience out there so have fun!
Bi
Thanks Jennie well done with your trampolining!
Have a great time
Have you looked at temperature variations in different depths -or would that just add complications to what you’ve researched in terms of distance from glaciers?
THANK YOU
!!!!!!
WHAT IS THE FOOD LIKE IS IT NICE?
XX
No some people have done that Jess. I opted for a simple experiment and it still went wrong somehow!
The food is great, I shall bring back the Cooks cook book.
cant you take a water sample, and let it cool or heat to “room” temp?
Oh dear! You may just have to go back to the Arctic maybe to do it again…that’s life, huh?
oooooooooh cook book!!!!!!!!!!! THAT SOUBNDS GOOD
ok lool oh yeah mum said hi and asks how you are and won’t stop talking about you lool
Has Any Fallen Of The Boat ?
thats what the scientists keep saying but no I’m not dragged down by it.
is the cook book on amazon?????
Can i have a copy of the Cook Book
Tom
On the other hand the scenery and wildlife is brilliant. Visiting the glacier was probably the best highlight.
Are you bringing back any sunveneirs
Has That The Artist Dude Done Any Art Yet ? x
Hi Riddlesdown, to give Liam a chance to answer some questions I thought I’d ask you all… have you been doing any climate change projects while Liam’s been up in the Arctic?
do i get a present when you come back from the artic?
Do You Get Time To Go Off The Boat Or Are You Always on It ?
Sounds good! but soup every day… doesn’t that get a bit generic? lol! I may also like the cook book!
are you planning to create somthing memerable in the arctic? like creating ur name from ice!!
x
will you bring back any yellow snow
…And to add to Kathy’s question to Riddlesdown: Are you taking plenty of photos of any activities???
ye if theres a cook book can i have one please

Hi Liam
Hope You Are Havin A Good Time In The Arctic !
Is It Cold Or Ok??
Have You Seen Any Other Animals ?
From Nancy !
Actually, not much, we haven’t been doing much Cl Ch research. We’ve all been contemplating on why Liam went, and there are 10002 reasons why, heh!
Riddlesdown – just to follow on Kathy’s question. I work at the Cape Farewell HQ and we’d love to hear what climate change projects you’ve been working on while Liam’s away. What is your school doing about climate change? Do you recycle?!
Yeah I shall give you a few copies. But it is scary the possibility of that glacier not being there in a few years time.
You There ?
yes we recycle, but the council doesnt take plastic or metal.
Is The Glacier Really Big ?
hi katie how are u??
x
Hii
. Good Thank. You ? x
Thanks Chris, right, who is going to write to the counciil to get them to take plastic and metal?
Hi Chris how is it down there
Im learning about Global warming in Geography and about your journey.
Although that’s a scary thought, is it also slightly cool that you’ve seen something that not many people at all will see / have seen? Does that kind of bond you and the others together?
We’ll try to swap them with letters
very well thank u
what r u planning to write to liam next
x
We have all created an ice sculpture on a beach based around our feelings on climate change and the idea of the project. Look on the website at the photo gallery, there are some amazing photos.
That’s it! We’ll all write ginormous letters to the croydon council about this recycling fiasco! It’s so orriginal!
you didnt answer my question about do i get a present when you come back?
make sure you do bring a copyof the cook book back because mum will probly TRY and make some of the things no only joking
Theres A Beach In The Arctic ? Bit Cold Isnt It
i will!!! even though one of our teachers has tried, we’ll persevere
Letters…bombard them with letters!
Great news! Riddlesdown 1 vs council 0. What else can you do? We’re on a roll.
(But obviously request that they recycle those letters once they have finished reading and responding to them!)
we are going to teach primary schools about climate change
Do You Eat Fish Out Of The Sea ?
we could email them so much that there computer system crashes
excellent – working with primary schools is a great idea. It’s all about spreading the knowledge of what you know and how you can change daily behaviours. Small changes lead to big changes!
Tomorrow we shall be leaving Ny Alseund, at around lunchtime but please check out my next video.
Now there’s an idea. (Disclaimer: I’m not promoting violence, simply encouraging action).
when is the next video have you already done it?
When Are You Making The Video ?
Just now I filmed my latest video by a steam train, it should be up tomorrow describing my science and art project and what I have accomplished.
Okai I Will Watch It
How much longer do you have on the computers
okay i wil see it when i go on next
Thanks again to everyone who has posted comments and I shall speak to you when I get back, which is on Monday.
Biiii
Thanks to everyone for taking part in this Q&A. Please keep us informed of any climate change initiatives at Riddlesdown hannahbird@capefarewell.com
