Finally On The Ship, After A Week Of Preparation. We left Longyearbyen At Around 6:30 Supper Time. Then Me, Hailey And Jozef Also Students, Had The First Shift Of Look-Outs. So As Usual, I Was First To Steer the Ship,, I’m So Proud Of Myself!, And I Was The First To Go up In Front of The Ship Where There is A Net We Can Stand On, But I Had To Use A Safety Rope, So I A Limited Area To Walk On.. I Couldn’t Go Right to The Tip That Was BORING!!!. Our Look-Out Shifts Are 2-3 Hours Long, And We’re In 4 Groups Of 3 People per Group. So Far We Haven’t Seen Anything, but Sure Enough We’ll See Something Tomorrow! I’m Finally Feeling Excited, Just Because I Know That I’ll Be Asking Some Scientist Questions About The Future And I’ll Be Doing My Research! Can’t Wait..

In That Case, I Would Like To Place A Bet On My Own Questions. I Bet The Bug Population Back Home Will Keep Growing More And More, And The Weather Will Keep Getting Hotter, And Our Winters Will Keep Getting Shorter, Until We Have No More Lakes And Everything Burns Down And There Is No More life On Earth…LOL, I’m Exaggerating!.Svalbard Is Almost Exactly Like Home, But Their It A Lot Of Mountains!, There Nice Though, Especially When The Sun Shines On Them, Sooo Sweet!.Oh Yeah, And You Can Also Use The Mountains To Steer The Ship.. Well, You Aim Something Towards A Mountain And Of That Thing Is Moving Out Of Place, You Know The Ship Is Turning Slowly, Simple Eh:D. I Really Can’t Wait Until Tomorrows Adventure, Maybe We’ll See Some Animals. Well, Heading To Bed, Which Is Approx. 6 by 2 ½ Feet And My Room Is 6 by 6 Feet, But The Other Kids Have Smaller Rooms, I Feel So Lucky. All Of The Rooms Have Sinks To Wash Up In The Morning And/Or To Wash Our Hands After Using The Toilet, And The Washroom Is 3 Doors Down From My Room. The Washroom Is Approximately 5 Feet By 3 Feet Or 4 Feet by 3 Feet Or 3 By 4. And In The Washrooms (4 Of Them) There is A Toilet And A Shower And Just A Curtain To Separate Them.. Okay Good Night.

Love All

When We Got Back, We Ended Up Seeing A Nanuq, Everybody Went Crazy!, But It Was Really Far And It Seemed Like It Was Following The Way We Walked..

Theres This Guy Who Can Inuktuuq, He Said He Lived in Greenland For Whatever Many Years,, So Now I Don’t Feel So Left Out, Because Before We Got On The Ship Everybody Else Had Someone To Talk To In Their Own Language, But now I’m

Sorry I Didnt See The Queen In London, We Were Always Too Busy.

Well. i am now in Svalbard!! Reminds me of home! i mean the weather, not the mountains:( But Still Cool!

We Just Got In Today, Wednesday The 13th Of September.

We left London at 7pm, london time, so that would be 11 in the morning in chester.

We Went through Stolkholm Sweden, Where Abba And Matts Sunden Was Originally From. Then We Passed Through Oslo Norway and Tromso Norway. Now We’re Finilly In Longyearbine Svalbard!! Yay!”.

So We Are Now In A Youth Centre. Its awesome here, its like a house, it has a foos ball table, a pool table up stairs, couches, a tv, a Dj area, a room just to hang out, i guess, oh and a washroom:P.. And We Should Be Setting sail Tomorrow!, Were staying at a hotel, for tonight. It has lots of seal skins, seal skins almost every where!. Oh and we went to a museum. Most if not all of the animals here are like the ones from home, but they have raindeer, and we have caribou. Their raindeer are TINY!, i mean their fat, but they have short lags!, their like 4 feet tall to the head..lol.

So, ill be answering you all, 20th of september, miss you all.

bye.

Our challenge: Doriana blogging in Inuktitut
Doriana, from Victor Sammurtok School in Chesterfield Inlet (Igluligaarjuk), Nunavut, would like to blog in her native Inuktitut. This isn’t something we’ve tried before(!) but we’re doing our best to make it possible. As I researched the ins and outs of doing this, I found some interesting facts and links I thought I’d share…

Where is Inuktitut used?
Nunavut is a huge, sparsely populated territory in the far north of Canada where the majority of the inhabitants are Inuit. Inuktitut is spoken as a first language by about 85% of this population. According to Wikipedia “The Canadian census estimates that there are roughly 30,000 Inuktitut speakers in Canada, including roughly 200 who live regularly outside of traditionally Inuit lands.” The Inuktitut language is written in different ways in different places, but Inuktitut syllabary is the writing system used by Inuit people in Nunavut.

Viewing Inuktitut
In order to display syllabic Inuktitut characters, you must have a font on your computer that contains these characters. When no syllabic Inuktitut font is present (or you’re using the wrong Inuktitut font) the text will appear as question marks, rectangles, or as meaningless combinations of Roman letters, numbers and punctuation. If you have Inuktitut fonts installed on your computer you should be able to see the following text.

wk4tg5 ttCsy6 wm4+fg6 w]m|A6+X wm4+fg6 w]m6+X wm6 wEUJ6 w7mg6 jDi6 w]m|A6+X

Get a free Inuktitut font
There are different ways of displaying Inuktitut on websites, but our site isn’t handling Unicode very well at the moment, so we’re sticking with Legacy (Non-Unicode) fonts for now. If you can’t see a line of interesting characters above then you don’t have the right font yet. Download the Nunacom font below (Non-Unicode Inuktitut font).
Download Nunacom »

Online Inuktitut dictionaries and translations
I don’t know how good they are (we’ll have to wait to ask Doriana) but here’s a few links to some interesting tools.
Online translator »
Doriana sings in the ancient Inuit tradition of ‘throat-singing’. She will create songs inspired by her experiences on the voyage and perform them. (See Doriana throat singing in the Canada documentary on the website!)
